My Battle Against Cellulite – Weight Loss Edition

08-14-2014_Cellulite-004

Nivea Q10 Cellulite Gel, Champion trainers from Payless ShoeSource, Old Navy knee-length black sports pants, Bazinga! T-shirt from Walmart, Indianapolis Colts cap (inherited from my dear Sister)

I’ve already mentioned on the blog that I started dieting (post here and here) and feel quite accomplished with Weight Watchers. Since then I stayed silent on the topic, but kept working hard and tried to follow the instructions to a T. It paid off splendidly but halfway through I realized it’s not enough to change my eating habits. Since my teenage years, like most women I was cursed with cellulite in my thigh to waist area. This is where I start gaining first and losing last. So when I moved back to my Sister’s, for one I changed my eating habits again (they keep to a more Eastern European meal plan, explanation’s coming in a not-too-far future post) and decided to start the most readily available and inexpensive workout, running coupled with Nivea Q10 Cellulite Gel.

Every day I wake up and go for a 25-30 min. tops running routine in our neighborhood. This consists of a quick (less than 5 minutes) warm-up for my muscles and joints, a minimum of 15 minutes of uninterrupted jogging that I do in a nearby longish crescent road that leads back home (generally I go for three laps), a 2-minutes wind-down walk and a 3-minutes stretch at the end. This works for me quite well, though I try to keep my days pretty active too (with a 3 and a half year-old around the house I have a lot of opportunities for extra walks, playground visits and so on.

Step two of this process is Nivea’s Q10 Cellulite Gel from their Q10 range that I’ve been applying religiously every night, before bed in the last 2,5 weeks. This is a light gel that has quite a runny consistency and a fresh smell (reminds me of a cross between unscented soap and lightly smelling men deodorant). After bath I gently rub a dollop into my problem areas where it absorbs quickly and leaves a nice cooling effect on the skin. Fancy! It actually feels like it’s doing something. There are other Nivea Q10 products (moisturizers and lotions) targeting cellulite that you are supposed to use in conjuncture with the Gel. Since I’ve never tried those I cannot form a clear opinion on them but they are something I should look into based on my success with the Gel.

All in all this combination seems to be a good one because I started dropping cellulite left and right after the first 3-5 days. My skin in general appears more smooth and tight and my legs and abs started to finally show some muscle tone too… Now, with the diet on top that I adjusted slightly to compensate the more active life style, I weight 154.0 lbs (working myself down from a whopping 169.8 lbs that is quite more compared to my regular, pre-USA measuring) and dropped at least 1-2 sizes in pants depending on their cut… A miracle! I also feel more energetic and less winded after activity, and more alive in general. An all around win… now I just have to keep up with it!

See you soon!

My Summer Skincare and Makeup Staples

06-11-2014_Summer staples-004

Skin care and makeup shifts for me when summer comes. Firstly because I leave to stay with family and friends in Canada and there’s no way of packing everything (still managed a considerable amount of lipstick!?) I wear a little bit less of the last and a little bit more of the first. Anyway there are three key products that see a lot of use and help me keep up with everything…

Empties Abound #1

I finished up a few (perhaps a little bit more than few, if they can fit only in two posts… ;D) products in the last few months so here’s a compilation with a few thoughts and a verdict about repurchase.

My Travel Beauty

03-08-2014_Travel beauty-006

As I mentioned before in my Beauty Packing for Travel post I’m staying with my family and only for a week so I packed really light clothes wise. This meant enough space for my considerable travel stash in my fav toilette bag with tiny whales (yeah, you read right!!!) and hearts from Women’s Secret. Be forewarned, this is not the lightest I have ever packed I could definitely downsize more but this time I didn’t have the space constrains so I was able to pack a little bit of everything however no make-up brushes this time. I decided to go with the hands are your best tools approach… it’s a first but I’m not complaining yet.

Beauty Packing for Travel

traveling on a busIt’s Spring break and I left my not so sunny American small-town and headed for an even less sunny Toronto. Part of my family, my sister, lives there, on the outskirts of Toronto, only 35 minutes away from the center.

My break will last only one week but there are two things in favor for the quick visit:

  1. It is refreshing to be with family who care so much. Having friends is great but nothing like family so Toronto is more like a retreat, a place to charge up my batteries and arm myself against being lonely or homesick. It’s not perfect but the closest thing there is to home, Hungary.
  2. I’m a big city girl, I was brought up in a capital city, Budapest so to spend time in a city as big as Toronto is like being in a candy shop after months of dieting. I love and miss the busy streets, the bustling life and easily accessible shops.

CN Tower, TorontoToday’s post was mostly prompted by my general dilemma of what to take with me. I love to travel and enjoy the feeling of going somewhere but packing is always really hard. I’m a natural klutz (I frequently forget or misplace things) and I am really attached to all my possessions in general so I had to work out a way to logically weight the importance of every item. I would call my method as a gradual down-sizing: I always start out with too much and then step by step pick out the things that I really need with me.

Sephora Webshopping and Reviews

Sephora Webshopping

I love Sephora and their skincare and cosmetic lines and I know how hard it is to decide what to spend your money on when you step in that huge place. My first time was 3 HOURS long!!! Also buying in the store is a lot of times not an option for a poor student like me (I use the website a lot). Buying on the internet is quick and easy but it is kinda hard to find the best when you are deprived of the real experience of the senses (touch, smell, sight mostly).  So I read and research before buying and still have misses and overlooked products while I’m on the mission of looking for the best. In this context even if it seems over-crowded in the blogging world, writing reviews is something important. You cannot have enough information (especially if you don’t have copious amounts of money) so I will do my best to give a good, solid opinion and tips for usage whenever I decide to mention and photograph a product.
