Corals are great for spring and summer too. In spring I tend to wear more that subtle shades and in summer I reach for the bolder ones but really there are days when I’m not in the mood for strong colors then I exclusively choose the lighter versions. I’m partial to mattes with this color, as you will see… I have only one shiny finish, a cremesheen. I picked two higher end (with one extremely expensive) and three drugstore offerings.
Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet 43 La Favorite
This is the most expensive of all but I have it on at least once a week so it was worth it in my book. It’s matte but a very comfortable wear that I don’t need a balm under or over and long-lasting. The color is one of the lighter corals, opaque and gorgeous and on the days I don’t want bold it’s the perfect fit. It was love at first sight…
M.A.C. Cremesheen lipstick in Crosswires
The only creamy and shiny coral lipstick today. Mattes suit me more in general but this has hydration and a subtle sheen to offer that can be preferred on some days. I also have to mention that Essiebutton made me do it… She loves this shade and I saw it on her in countless videos and when she mentioned that it looks like the signature lipstick of Joan Holloway (Christina Hendricks) from Made Man I had to check it out. I bought it during my last visit to Canada.
Rimmel Lasting Finish Matte by Kate Moss in 109 and 110
I love Rimmel lipsticks; especially their mattes are delightful. They are not as lip friendly as a Chanel, YSL or NARS matte but for the price it is really good. They can be drying in the long run but it’s nothing that cannot be rectified with a good lip balm. I have four from this range (these two, a fire engine red and a dark brownish red, because the nudes don’t suit me). They are long-lasting but they are best to be used after a lip scrub to avoid lines.
Rimmel Lasting Finish Matte by Kate Moss 109 is a peachy coral a more reserved choice.
Rimmel Lasting Finish Matte by Kate Moss 110 is the brighter version. This is the closest shade to red from all the corals.
And next to each other…
From left to right: 109, 110. Hopefully you can see the difference on the picture but it is really more evident on the lips…
Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Audacious
Revlon is my other favorite drugstore brand so including their infamous Matte balms is a must. They are good to go on the lips for hours before I’m in need of a balm or another coat. It is so bright I cannot believe it’s so hard to make it show up on pictures. It is one of my two most vivid lipsticks. My verdict: I need to pick up more shades of this line.
And the swatches times two…

Next are the orange tones the following Saturday.
