As part of my spring series it’s time for reviews and a make-up look. In the last two months I purchased some pieces from the NARS Final Cut Collection for Spring 2014, and a powder from Clarins Opalescence Spring 2014 Collection.
Spring makeup for me is subtle, full of peach and rosy pink and really light on the face. I like to leave off bronzer and shimmer on the cheeks and prefer naturally bright skin peeking out under my foundation (I achieve that with skin-care products like Origins Gin-Zing Energizing Moisturizer, see review here). And if we are already talking about it, at spring time I like lighter mineral foundations paired with a good-coverage concealer at least until summer heat sets in and I don’t have a choice if I want to stay relatively oil free with my combination skin. Eye make is also light at this time of the year with some basic colors to slightly emphasize the eye socket and thin black liner (I have Audrey Hepburn in front of my mental eyes when I think spring…). Brows are not too drawn in either to keep it more natural.
The next Spring Collection products help me with this spring look.
Clarins Opalescence Face & Blush Powder
You’ve seen a little bit about the Clarins Face & Blush Powder in this post of Canadian Luxe Splurge, now I’m ready to give my thoughts. I’ve been using this baby everyday and I am really pleased with it. It’s a little bit of everything in my purse. It’s a face powder, a blush and a bronzer in one and it starts out really light but definitely build-able. Thankfully the gold glitter rubs off after a few swipes. My favorite brush to apply it is a big fluffy face powder brush from Real Technique. I place more product from the read spots on my cheeks and use the darker color for the hollows and my temples. Actually I rarely use a blush with when this is on my face. It’s just a bit of color, exactly what I need on lazy days!
NARS Final Cut Blush
NARS Final Cut Blush is a real prize. I cannot press more that you NEED it if you don’t have anything similar in your stash. It’s warm peach in a slim, compact form with the signature rubber look. The color is perfect for spring but I can see myself using it during summer as well, because it warms up the cheeks just right. Be warned, blush brushes dispense a lot of color so take care and apply only lightly.
NARS Torres Del Paine Satin Lip Pencil
Torres Del Paine is an orange-peach slightly glossy lip pencil. This product shouts spring from miles away. It’s perfect when I prefer more subtle, peachy colors (before I turn to increasingly bolder lips for summer). Generally at this time of the year I get bored with winter’s dark reds and plums and I need something lighter. For some reason I need the slow build-up to bright and bold lips and I start with peaches and pinks getting more and more orangey and fuchsia with the warming up weather. This pencil feels really light on the lips with an opaque color. I suggest using it on scrubbed, clean lips (I love the Lush Sugar Lip Scrub!) for maximum effect. Sure it’s not something that keeps long on your lips, I would say it’s average for its category, however reapplying is quick with the pencil nib. This formula, color payoff and format would be a five star product for me, if they could come up with a twisty inside, like Revlon’s Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains. At this point you need to get ready with a jumbo pencil sharpener to enjoy this product. A quick tip: first put it in the fridge for a few minutes and only after start sharpening away.
This combo looks really good on pictures and on the face as well, the colors easily complement each other. You can rock it with a softer, daytime eye look with spring colors or in the evening with a smokey eye.
And the swatches…
I hope you liked this post! My first time trying to take a decent photograph of myself… There’s a reason why I like to be behind a camera and not in front but getting out of my comfort-zone is a good challenge in the spirit of spring renewal. Here’s another close-up and the full product list:
